I love making the table feel as abundant and welcoming as the food itself. There's something truly special about setting a scene that invites guests to relax, linger, and feel at home. One of my favourite ways to do that is by using natural elements - flowers, greenery, and branches to bring a sense of the season to the table.
When I’m working with just one variety of flower, I like to use it generously. Cluster single stems in mismatched jars or vases of different heights and scatter them along the table. The result is simple yet so beautiful. I also love tucking a single stem into each napkin. It’s such a small detail, but it goes a long way in making each guest feel noticed and appreciated.
For rectangular tables, a trail of ivy down the centre is a timeless way to bring nature indoors. Weave tiny fairy lights through the greenery and add a few small jars of blooms along the way. The soft glow creates a magical atmosphere, perfect for intimate gatherings or special celebrations.
Don’t be afraid to go bold, either. A few dramatic branches, perched at the end of the table or on a nearby sideboard, can be utterly striking. The beauty of using branches is that they work year-round: cherry blossoms or dogwood in spring, golden leaves in autumn, bare sculptural branches in winter. They bring height and a touch of the unexpected.
Potted plants are another beautiful and sustainable option. Seasonal herbs or flowering plants in rustic terracotta pots look gorgeous nestled into greenery along the table. They add depth, texture, and a sense of life and afterward, they can be planted in the garden or used in the kitchen.
At the heart of it all is the idea of seasonality: celebrating what’s growing and flourishing right now. Your table doesn’t need to be elaborate or expensive. A handful of wildflowers, a snip of ivy, or a single branch from the garden is often all it takes to completely transform the mood and wrap your guests in the beauty of the season.
