A great table always begins with a great tablecloth, it sets the tone for everything to come. My Caramel & Honeycomb striped tablecloth is warm, earthy, and elegant, the perfect foundation for layering autumnal colours and textures. I then lay the plates and drape the lovely Caramel and Honeycomb Napkins in contrasting narrower stripes across the plate.
Next I choose the centrepiece. Down the centre, I’ve scattered crab apples from the garden to create a natural runner. Don’t worry if you don’t have crab apples, you can use any seasonal fruit or veg as ornamental decoration: mini pumpkins and munchkins, figs, pears, grapes with their leaves if you can find them, or even ornamental gourds. These bring beautiful shapes and tones to the table and can be arranged loosely for a relaxed, organic feel.
I then like to scatter small vases of autumnal flowers through my centrepiece. Here I have used my Burnt Caramel Glass Vases, which come in different shapes for added interest and the beautiful amber tones catch the light and complement the linen. I like to arrange small, delicate flowers at varying heights to create interest and movement. Here, I’ve used Chocolate cosmos, Peachy dahlias and small red berry branches gathered from the garden.
No autumn table is complete without candlelight. This season, I’m using candles in warm, autumnal shades - dark chocolate brown and caramel for that golden glow as the nights draw in. I love arranging them along the table in brass candle dishes, which reflect the flickering light and add a touch of vintage charm.
These muted, moody tones bring just the right amount of drama and elegance to the table. This tablescape is meant to be relaxed and seasonal so have fun with it. Use what you can forage or find locally. The key is layering textures, tones, and natural elements for a cosy, inviting setting.
